Frank Furness CSP has run the bootcamp on 5 continents and over 500 speakers have attended, some now amongst the best in the world.
The first day will teach you the speaking skills and the second day how to market yourself and get the high fees.
Take a look at
http://speakersbootcamp.co.uk/ for the date and place closest to you.

Your Business Plan
If you want to work the International Circuit, you need to plan for it. Work out how many days each year you want to speak overseas, the market you want to work and develop an action plan.

Your Unique Market
Choose your unique and specialty market. Our market was initially the English speaking International Financial Services market. Over the years this has spread to include the IT and software market as well as any company in any country where people can understand English. Because of our delivery style, we have chosen not to work with translators.

Marketing yourself – the key to success
· Identify clients you have spoken for in the past that have international offices. Get a referral to the decision maker in the overseas office. Email or send a letter and follow up with a phone call.
· Dial and Smile – Pick up the phone and cold call. When Frank started out, he identified companies and banks that have international offices and phoned the President. One of those calls resulted in a business relationship with a company that spends between $50k - $100k each year sponsoring him to speak to their clients around the world.
· Find five clients that will provide you with 50% of your work each year. We have five large international companies that each book us for between six and thirty talks each year. We also have two or three Companies that we are developing should any of the ‘big five’ drop out.
· Actively prospect when speaking abroad. When speaking overseas, we will scan the local papers, magazines and yellow pages for potential clients. We’ll then phone and establish who the decision makers are and endeavor to set up a meeting and sell our services. A lot of these Companies are open and receptive to meeting with you.
· Referrals – always ask for referrals. Apart from existing clients who we do repeat business with each year, we have over 200 potential clients that have been given to us as referrals. If you leave the client satisfied, they will always give you referrals – IF YOU ASK!
· Add on an extra day to meet with potential clients – Wherever we speak in the world, we add on an extra day to see potential clients and bureaus. We can normally fit in 5 appointments for the day and this always results in at least one extra booking. On a recent trip to Singapore Frank managed to give a keynote speech to a large Insurance Company and in the same day have five meetings with potential clients. One of these meetings was a cocktail party where he met with twenty of the most influential business leaders in Singapore.
This was only achieved because Frank had developed a center of influence in Singapore who had arranged the talk and all of the meetings. He is rewarded with a percentage of the fee, which makes it a win-win situation for everyone.
· Find the other offices – When speaking internationally, find out where the International client for whom you are speaking has other branches around the world. Find out who you should contact at the other offices to do the same talk. In January we spoke at a large software company in Dubai. The CEO from London was in Dubai at the time and heard us speak. After the talk he asked us to contact him to replicate the talk to their other international offices. They have offices in 33 countries.
· Network and socialize – Before going on an international talk, surf the net to see what social events are happening while you’re there. Then arrange an invitation, as you’ll always meet potential clients at these events
· Have fun and take a tour – If we visit a country for the first time, we’ll always take an extra few days to see the place. This normally includes a half-day bus tour. It’s amazing whom you can meet on these tours. We’ve met and become friends with the Vice-President of one of the largest insurance companies in the USA and a grand old lady who turned out to be the wife of the owner of one of the UK’s biggest supermarket chains.
· Bureaus – find out who the bureaus are internationally and meet with them. When Frank spoke in South Africa last July, he met with the leading bureau. This resulted in bookings in November in Sun City and Mauritius for both Brendan and Frank.
· Web site – Pay a company to generate hits to your site. By doing this we have just secured a talk with a USA bank from the Internet. This has also generated three other enquiries, one with an International Company who needs someone to speak in five different Countries for them.
· Always meet with the decision maker at the event. We were recently booked to speak in Scotland to a company who had just merged with a German telecommunications Company. After the talk we spent some time with the German CEO and now following up to present the same talk to the German counterparts.

How to Recruit Top Sales Talent

The challenges that so many businesses face are that they are purely results driven and many times ignore the importance of relationships and communication, which are ironically significant contributors to achieving results.

Having spent many years recruiting top sales people, I discovered long ago that in the recruiting interviews I had to find out a lot more about the person than what they and their resume were telling me.

I had to find out what their unique behaviours and attitudes were and whether they could fit comfortably into my sales team. I had to discover how good they were at developing relationships not only with clients, but with the rest of the team. I also needed to know whether they were hunters who were prepared to open doors anywhere and anytime or whether they were farmers who were great at developing existing relationships.

I learned early that good leaders are effective matchmakers – taking the right person with the right talents and matching that person with the right tasks and responsibilities. The perfect match builds a person’s self-confidence and makes him/her want to work harder. It is then not the leader who inspires. Rather it is the leader’s responsibility to help others inspire themselves.

Here are some points to ponder as you consider your team:

Have you reflected on why you are in your position?

Do you know what the unique behavioural talents of your colleagues are?

Do you know how to capitalize on the differences in your team?

Is everyone on your team committed to the business?

Do you know how to adapt your communication to address others on their terms?

Do your team members trust each other?

Do your team members work harmoniously, or is there a ‘them’ and ‘us’ attitude (I find this with so many of the teams that I train, sales and sales support or admin in conflict which hampers the results for everyone.)

Does your business (or the business you work in) have the right financial alignment to meet the needs of the team and its business goals

For many years I tried every tool on the market, but most were personality and not behaviourally based. When I visited Atlanta recently, I discovered that this tool had been developed and wanted to share this with all the CEOs and managers that I work with around the world. It will literally change the way that you look at recruiting sales people in the future.

Travel and Speaking Tips - England

We moved from South Africa to England fifteen years ago and for four years I worked in the City of London. It is now one of my favourite cities in the world. Flattened and rebuilt several times in the course of its long life, London is a fascinating combination of the new mingled with the very old. It has been said that when you tire of London, you tire of life. There is plenty to see and do and it is heralded as the theatrical centre of the world. Some of the great attractions include, The Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, The Eye of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey to name just a few.

Oxford Street is famous for its shopping and if your credit card stretches far enough, visit Harrods, one of the most exclusive department stores in the world.

The transport system is great to get around with when you don’t have a car with the ‘underground tube’ taking you wherever you want to go. A one-day travel card costs around £8 and gives you unlimited travel on the tube and London’s double decker buses. A cab drive with the London Black Taxis is a great experience and if your driver is a cockney, you’ll love the rhyming slang language and their sense of humour.

Dining out is a wonderful gastronomic experience with different ethnic foods to tempt your palate and there are many good and also many not so good hotels to stay in and the small size of some hotel rooms are a disappointment to many visitors. Don’t be surprised when you see the prices, as London is well renowned to be one of the most expensive cities in the world.

Moving out of London, a short drive or rail trip will take you to the beautiful town of Windsor renowned for Windsor Castle, one of the Queen’s residences and Eton College where many of the Royals complete their education. The vast countryside in Britain is a wonderful sight to behold and the little villages along the way offer exquisite antique shops to visit, country tea houses serving fresh scones, jam and cream and interesting places to visit.

A day at Henley on Thames for the boat races is a must - see the photograph above.

British audiences are wonderful, but you need to do some research. They are very conservative and do not enjoy talks that encourage audience participation. Some time ago, an American speaker who was on the same programme as me started his talk by asking the audience to stand and repeat, “I feel good, I feel fine, I’m fantastic all the time”. The audience was very embarrassed and his talk went downhill from there. The English sense of humour is very different from that of the Americans as is their taste in sport. The British are passionate about “football”, rugby and cricket and have very little knowledge of American football, basketball, baseball or ice hockey.

Watch the television, travel in the city, read the newspapers and then adapt your talk accordingly. Many of my friends from the USA have adapted their talks and consequently have been invited back numerous times.

There are many excellent venues to speak at, my favourite being the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, which is two hours north of London. Manchester, the home of the football team Manchester United also offers many speaking opportunities and is the second largest city in England.

There are around 35 bureaus in the UK, but they are different to many other countries in that they are very much celebrity focused. The British love celebrities, sports stars and TV personalities, so it can take a while to establish yourself with them if you are a business speaker. I work with about four bureaus who I have established a good relationship with, and then concentrate on my own marketing efforts to keep the diary full.

There are many CEO groups where you will be in front of prospective clients as well as numerous networking organisations. Always contact the Professional Speakers Association to attend some of the meetings while you are here.

Next month, Scotland, Wales and Ireland

11 Tips to Develop and Promote Effective Newsletters and Ezines Online

Everyone should develop a 10 touch plan to stay in contact with their clients on a regular basis. The easiest way to do this is through an ezine or electronic newsletter.

This is a great way to share information, promote your products, and get feedback from your most important customers. Here are some pointers to creating a successful newsletter.

1. Have a Theme.
The largest pitfall to developing an effective newsletter is the lack of a theme. When creating newsletters on a regular basis, select a unique theme every month that appeals to your audience. Once you have identified a theme, be sure that your newsletter content focuses on that specific theme throughout its content. With my newsletter, I have a number of themes to suit my different audiences; sales, technology, speaking and motivation.

2. Allow for Easy Reading and Archiving
The first few seconds are your most important so make them count. Use big,
bold headlines, and article descriptions, providing links to the full article or related content areas. Also, make it easy for subscribers to read back issues and put a link to the archive on your blogs and websites.

3. Use Graphics.
Producing a newsletter that's wall-to-wall text will not be able to keep the interest of even your most savvy reader. Include photographs and videos where possible. This will break up those large blocks of content and increase your newsletter's appeal. Make sure your graphics include links to the articles or products they reference as Internet browsers tend to click on pictures or graphics presented online.

4. Include Product or Service Information.
Internet users are very comfortable with product promotion especially when receiving free information or content. I always try to give a great deal of content as well as many free resources – take a look in the links section. Products or services that are closely aligned with the theme of your newsletter can be ideal. As a rule of thumb, keep the number of products you promote to three or less.

5. Be Viral.
Never assume that the person reading your newsletter signed up for it directly. In fact, you should encourage your readers to forward the newsletter to others who may be interested in the content you're providing. Make it easy for new users to sign up through a link in each edition of your newsletter. When users forward a copy to a friend, they can easily subscribe.

6. Place all your newsletter articles on your blog
This will attract a new audience who will pick up the articles from the internet, subscribe to your newsletter and eventually buy your products or services.

7. Ping your Blog
I use a website
http://www.pingomatic.com to ping my blog, this is, in effect getting the message to most of the blog directories that I have new articles on my blog for viewing.

8. Submit your Newsletter to the top directories
This will find subscribers who are interested in your subject and encourage them to sign up. Here are some to consider:

EzineHub.com
http://www.ezinehub.com/

FreeTechMail.org IT Newsletters
http://www.freetechmail.org/

Jisc Mail
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/

List Search, L - Soft

ListCity
http://www.list-city.com/

ListTool.com
http://www.listtool.com/

New-List.com
http://new-list.com/

9. Have a second, short newsletter
I noticed that many of my CEO clients were too busy to read my normal long newsletter. I then produced a second newsletter with only five or six links to the newsletter articles now on my blog. This increased readership by 33%.

10. Promote your newsletter everywhere.
Promote your newsletter on your website, blogs, vlogs, articles and videos. I promote my newsletter on some of my YouTube videos and this has resulted in 10,000 new subscribers in the past year.

11. Find the right software for your newsletter.
I have two lists, my ‘A’ list which is people that I know or those who have seen me speak. For them I use
Constant Contact and for my ‘B ‘ list which is subscribers from all over the world that I have never met, I use Infacta Groupmail.

Video - The New Marketing Revolution

Two years ago I predicted that video was going to change the way we all did business on the internet.

Take a look at a March 2008 report by comScore (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world statistics.

US Internet users viewed 11.5 billion videos online during the month of March 2008.

139 Million U.S. Internet users watched an average of 83 videos per viewer in March 2008.

73.7% of the total U.S. Internet Audience viewed video online during the month of March.

84.8 million viewers watched 4.3 billion videos on YouTube, alone!

47.7 million viewers watched 400 million videos on MySpace.com (8.4 videos per viewer).

The average online video duration was 2.8 minutes.

The average online video viewer watched 235 minutes of video.

Video has literally changed the way I do business. Take a look at the results:

My video mails have brought me in 10,000 new subscribers

I get regular bookings and product sales from my videos.

I am able to monitor the number of viewings from the different sites

I have included video in all my websites and blogs

I have discovered an incredible way of using video as a search engine optimiser - I can get to page one for a short time with almost any keywords.

On July 28th I will be running a teleseminar sharing all the details, take a look at Seminar for all the information and to register.

Travel Tips, new and Updates

Once again it has been an incredibly busy quarter, with most of my speaking engagements being overseas. I have travelled to the USA twice, speaking in Nashville, Denver, Orlando, Atlanta and Milwaukee.

Having been a professional musician in my dark and distant past, I was totally knocked out by Nashville. I saw more incredible groups there in a week than I have seen over the past 5 years
.

Take a look at some of the music I listened to in the Honky Tonk bars.
I also experienced one of the best tours I have been on, Jack Daniels in Lynchburg - take a listen to the tour guide, he has a great accent.

In Denver I met with Search Engine Optimisation guru, Steve Mertz, take a look at the video and gleam some valuable information on how to get your website seen and optimised.

I also spoke in Rome and for the first time and in Budapest in Hungary. What a wonderful city Budapest is, full of history, culture, great food and people. This is a place you must put on your 'must visit' list of places to see. Our hotel overlooked the Danube and it was wonderful to wake up to the site of the river traffic and walk along the riverside in the evenings.

My new self-published book - 'How to find New Clients and Business' has just been released with 120 pages of information that will help you to grow your business. Order it now in hardback or EBook instant download.

You can also download the MP3 of the 3 CD series 'How to Find New Clients and Business' at a 85% discount at http://www.frankfurnessresources.com/onetime offer/ for the next week.

My next 'Speakers Bootcamp' in the United Kingdom will be on the 26/27th July and there are still a few places available. This will be the only one in the UK this year, so please book as soon as possible. Details can be found at http://speakers bootcamp.co.uk/

Take a look at the Video Masterclass Teleseminar on 28th July. This seminar will give you the tools and resources to get more bookings, make more sales and grow your subscriber list. Full details at http://www.frankfurnessresources.com/vide oteleseminar/

Sales Tips - Easing tension levels and developing rapport with new clients

You’ve just met with a potential new client and tension levels are fairly high. This is the stage for ‘small talk’ and developing rapport and a business relationship. So what do you speak about?

Well, think about it, who do most people like to speak about. They love to speak about themselves, so that’s what we have to do; we have to get them to speak about themselves.

For many years, I’ve used ‘past, present and future’. I’d walk into the prospect’s office, have a look around and say, “this is amazing, you’ve got this great position with this top company, how did you get started?” Nobody’s asked them that question for years and they are really proud of what they have achieved and how well they have done in the company (this works really well with CEOs).

They may reply, “Well, fifteen years ago I started as a clerk and I worked my way up....and now I am the CEO”

You just keep quiet and listen. The next question you would ask would be about the present situation. “So tell me about your position at the moment, how are things going?”

They may reply, “well I’ve got fifteen people working for me, we’re expanding and opening three or four new branches as soon hope to be known in many countries worldwide.” At this stage you just keep quiet and listen.

Your next question is asking them about the future, and with this question you’ll learn more about your potential client than in any other part of the interview. “So where do you see yourself and your organisation in five or ten years time?” and you just keep quiet.

What they now say will give you all kinds of buying signals. You will hear things like; ‘Well, I want to expand and open another three branches………’

This is where the clients talk from the heart. These are the emotions and the reasons why they’re going to buy from you, so remember that when you walk in, use ‘past, present and future.’ Also remember that logic makes people think and emotion makes them act, focus on the emotion when selling.

Speaking Tips - Presenting in Hong Kong

Welcome to Hong Kong. How many of us can remember the old airport with the runway in the sea and the greatest challenge for every airline pilot. All that has changed now and Hong Kong airport is amongst the most modern in the world. A short train ride on a clean modern express takes you into either Kowloon or the Island of Hong Kong.

It is a country of fascination, history, and wonderful foods and of course the best shopping in the world. The main business district is on the Island of Hong Kong in the “central” district. It is easy to get around as the MTR underground is fabulous, clean, efficient and always on time. I normally buy an “octopus” ticket for HK$150 (approx US$20) and this can be used for a week. The hotels are first class as are the restaurants but be prepared, Hong Kong is an expensive city. Taxis are efficient but get your hotel to write out the address, as many taxi drivers don’t understand English. Most speaking venues are in the hotels or at the World Trade Centre and are super efficient. Do your homework before you go. I made some unforgivable blunders in the beginning. The first time I went to Hong Kong, I spoke to a group of approximately 100 Chinese business people. After the talk, many came to meet me and handed their cards to me, which I put into my pocket. I was politely told that I had insulted everyone and was then shown the correct behaviour. The card is handed over and accepted with both hands. You should read it, show appreciation by feeling it and making some gesture and then put it away in your pocket. Always carry a supply of business cards as the culture dictates the swapping of cards immediately.

As I travel to Hong Kong about 4 to 6 times a year, I bought some books on Chinese etiquette, which has assisted me tremendously. The Chinese can appear almost shy to start with, but they enjoy entertainment as much as anyone else. Your talk must contain many educational points, as this is a priority. The people are serious, professional and the hardest working nation I have come across. Never be late for an appointment.

Always expect the unexpected. On my trip last month I spoke to the sales force of a Chinese client that I had worked with twice before. They had moved into new offices where I would be speaking. They have a sales force of around a hundred people and I was expecting to speak in an auditorium. I was surprised to find that I was speaking in a huge office where they would all be sitting at their desks watching me on three giant TV screens. I was standing at the front of the office on a platform where a cameraman was filming and projecting the images (it reminded me of the old machine shops where everyone would be sitting working while an overseer controlled things from the front.)

My next talk was at the FCC (Foreign Colonial Club) and I arrived very early to get a feel of the venue. It was a breakfast talk and the room had been set up taking every last bit of space and leaving no room for the speaker. I quickly had to rearrange things and a factor that I take into account when I speak anywhere in the world is to be very specific about the arrangements and still always arriving early. I arrange a lot of my own speaking tours and it is up to me to ensure that everything meets the client’s expectations. I always tell my Chinese audiences that they can laugh, ask questions and enjoy themselves. Their culture dictates that normally the leader of the group would answer all questions. I am a very enthusiastic speaker and tend to speak fairly quickly, when speaking English to the Chinese I need to be very aware that I need to slow down and ensure that I am understood.

If you enjoy shopping (like me), there is no place like Hong Kong. There are shops literally everywhere. I have found the best places to shop in Mongkok, which contains a ladies market and night market, Causeway Bay and Tsim Sha Tsui. Gadget junkies will lose themselves at Star City and Wanchai Computer Centre. Nightlife abounds with wonderful restaurants and bars around Soho and Lan Kwai Fong. Taking a trip up the cable car will give you a spectacular view of the city. Take a bus ride to Stanley Bay where you can pick up all kinds of bargains at Stanley market like a beautiful silk tie for about US$1.50. Visit Happy Valley Racetrack or take a boat ride to Aberdeen to see a city of boat people. Enjoy the “Star Ferry” from Hong Kong to Kowloon with the locals or take the hovercraft to Discovery Bay for a game of golf. One of my favourite places is the Island of Chin Chau and a half hour ferry ride will take you to the favourite holiday resort of the locals. Beautiful beaches, no cars (only bicycles) and the best seafood will have you returning more than once. Another hovercraft trip will take you to the Island of Macau, which was previously under Portuguese rule and still has all the influences. The Island of Lantau has the giant Buddha and visit Sea Park with its cable cars that will give you a spectacular view of Hong Kong and will take you to the world’s longest escalator. Speaking opportunities abound, so get it to the top of your “opportunity” list.

If you ever get the opportunity speak in Hong Kong, the people are wonderful and the food and shopping great!

Technology Tips with Frank Furness & Terry Brock

My ‘brother from another mother’ Terry Brock, recently spent a few days at our home in London. Terry is one of the top technology speakers and journalists in the USA and my wife despairs every time he comes to visit as I end up spending a fortune on the latest tools and technology.

Take a look at the video we produced showing the latest on offer that can help you in your business.

I keep pushing video technology to the limits and will be making another 70 technology video clips in the next few months and uploading these to 50 video sites. Right now video is the thing of the future, here are some of the ways it can help you and your business:

Build a profile on the internet – I have over 100 videos on the net which has generated over 300,000 viewings

Sell your products or services – I always have some action that the viewer can take at the end of each video i.e. redirecting them to a sales page

Building your subscriber list – I get hundreds of new subscribers each week from all over the world from people watching the videos

Use it as an analysing tool – I monitor which videos have the most viewings and comments and then develop products to suit: I know there is an interested audience. Equally if there are very few viewings or comments, I don’t spend much time promoting those products/speeches.

Send viewers to a squeeze page where you can upsell them one of your products or services, get a brochure request or send them something that promotes your business. They are already interested, otherwise that wouldn’t have watched the video

Have your own video channel on YouTube – This will also have people subscribing to your channel, I have over 300 subscribers.

Next month I will also be starting my Video Coaching programme and showing you exactly how to do it. You will learn:

Where to find free programmes that will have you editing in minutes

How to put Hyperlinks on your videos (I searched for years to find this info)

The best sites to promote your videos and where you will even be paid for viewings

How to create your own video channel in minutes with no technical knowledge. Take a look at http://www.learn2present.com/ which I put together in 3 minutes. I make money from the Adwords on the site

How to build your subscriber list using video

Simple software programmes that will take any video, optimise it for the internet and even build the little TV with controls.

How to download videos from YouTube, convert them and use them in your presentations.

Please email me at frank@frankfurness.com if you are interested in the programme and I will get the details to you.

Frank Furness News & Views

Can you believe that we are in April already and this is my first newsletter of the year?

Last year I produced the video sales tips every two weeks and from next month I will be doing the same with video technology tips where I will be reviewing the latest tools that help to grow our businesses, have one free EBook give away and one productivity tip or idea. Please take a look at these as there are some great tips that are making or saving me money in my business.

From May I will also be starting my online coaching programme on how to create an income while you sleep. Please email me at frank@frankfurness for more details.

As you know I launched my new book ‘Walking with Tigers’ last year and now you can watch the video of the incredible good fortune I had to play with these wonderful animals. Click here to watch.
You can also watch and listen to some of the Business Tigers featured in the book including Karan Bilimoria from Cobra Beer, W.Mitchell, Rick Searfoss (astronaut), Mark Victor Hansen (Chicken Soup for the Soul) and internet Guru Tom Antion. Click here to take a look

In this edition, please take a listen to an interview with publishing guru, Dan Poyner. He will be running a workshop in the UK in July, click here for full details.

On Dan’s valuable advice my book How to Find New Business and Clients’ has been re-written and will be released in the next two weeks in book and EBook formats, watch for details.

I now have over 60 websites and use numerous software tools to automate everything. Over the years I have spent thousands on information EBooks, software and programmes to drive sales on the net as I am a salesman and this is the new global salesroom. I am not a ‘techie’, so don’t want to get bogged down by the technical details, but just want to press a few ’next’ buttons and watch things happen.

I decided to put a one-off offer to people who have bought products or services from me in the past and now have been asked by many of my subscribers to make this available to them. So I have decided to do this only until the 10th April and then will be closing this offer and making the products available separately at the normal prices. Don’t wait, take a look now, there will never be another offer like this (only for PCs, sorry......)

Success Secrets by Frank Furness

I have always maintained that to be the best in your field, whatever it is, you need to mix with the masters. When I started in sales in 1980, I found the top salesman and asked him if I could shadow him for 2 weeks, He agreed and I learned more from watching him than from all the sales programmes I had attended.

I did the same when I went into speaking, I interviewed some of the top speakers in the world like Zig Ziglar, attended as many talks as I could where I could watch and learn from them and then followed their advice. The same is now happening with my internet marketing business, I try to find the best, spend time with them and learn from them.

Some time ago the whole internet marketing fraternity was abuzz with a young 25 year old called Chris X who developed and marketed a book called Dayjob Killer which made him a million dollars in a short period of time. His next project was called ‘Google Assassin’ and consists of the most incredible software to optimise your site, find out how your competitors are beating you on the internet and making the best use of Adwords.

Once again this product made him over a million dollars in a three week period. I was fortunate enough to meet Chris and his partner in Manchester and spent the afternoon with them finding out how they managed to do this. I discovered that these are very smart people, Chris having qualified in law and Ken as a barrister.

I also had a video interview with them and then reviewed their latest product which you can watch below.
The most important points I learned from them were:
Don’t give up, it took them four years to get where they are now
Develop a circle of likeminded people to work together and mentor each other. Everyone has different strengths, and the power of so many ideas and ways of looking at things is what contributed to their success.
You don’t get rich overnight – it takes time and patience
Build your subscriber list, whatever your business or hobby – build that list
Find products of value that you can market to your subscribers, otherwise they will leave you

Sales Tips – How to Drive New Clients to Your Business by Frank Furness

With the economy slowing, it is now time to start a marketing campaign to find new clients and generate new leads. Here is a plan of action that I would suggest:

1. Who is your target audience or ideal client? Really spend some time on this and analyse your client base. Find out who the clients are that are giving you the lowest profits and the biggest headaches....we all have them. Now either get rid of them or assign them to a call centre team or someone else in the office, so you can spend more time on the profitable clients. Now take a look at your most profitable clients, the ones you really enjoy working with and profile them. How did they come to be clients, were they part of a marketing campaign, a referral, generated from the internet or other means?

2. Develop five marketing tools or strategies to get more ‘ideal clients’. What were the strategies that worked best in the past is everyone in the team still applying those strategies. There are many methods to find new clients or leads, but you should spend your time on the strategies that work best and give you the most profitable results and ‘ideal clients’. Marketing or prospecting strategies include:
• Referrals
• Associations and Trade Bodies
• Exhibitions
• Speaking at targeted conferences
• Centres of Influence
• Networking
• Websites and the Internet
• White papers
• Newsletters Article marketing
• Advertising
• Sponsorships
• Corporate entertainment
• Mailshots
• Expert articles in the trade press
• Hospitality
• Workshops and free surgeries

3. Your Competitive Advantage. Brainstorm with the sales and marketing team and discover your competitive advantage. Why should someone change from their existing supplier to you? How are you different, what better results can you offer? If you are not 100% clear on this, you will speak to a lot of potential clients and be met with that wonderful phrase ‘I want to think about it’, which really means NO – You haven’t convinced me why I should change and buy your goods or services.

4. When will the campaign start, what are the responsibilities of everyone on the team and how often.
